Science & Humanity: Researching Tropical Glacier Change in Ecuador

with Bri Jol '20, Biology & Environmental Studies major

After spending three weeks as a student research assistant in Ecuador with Dr. Jeff LaFrennierre (Geography Department), conducting glacier change research on tropical volcanoes, Bri gained a new appreciation for the intersections between science, communication, and the individuals impacted by climate change. She plans to share the data collection methods they used, what they hoped to discover, and how they move forward with necessary considerations of how phenomena such as melting glaciers – induced by humans – will ultimately influence humans and surrounding environments."

Bri Jol is a dedicated Linnaeus Arboretum Student Worker. On-campus, she serves as the Gustie Greeter Coordinator and is Co-Chair for the Gustavus student group, the Environmental Action Coalition
